Short bio: Bindoya Meats & Treats brings bold, traditional South African flavour to the heart of Creston. Known for their air-dried cured meats, coiled farmer’s sausages, crave-worthy sandwiches, and charcuterie, this shop offers something totally unique to the Kootenays. Planning an event? They also offer catering to impress your guests.

About the Business

What they offer: Bindoya specializes in traditional South African-style meats, including biltong, drywors, and their popular coiled farmer’s sausage (boerewors). You’ll also find made-to-order sandwiches, charcuterie, cold cuts, imported cheeses, and a mini candy bar (a surprise hit with adults!). Catering services are also available. With their upcoming expansion, Bindoya is adding a commercial kitchen, a cozy sit-down area, and even ready-made meals. Expect hearty South African-inspired comfort food with a Canadian twist.

Unique approach or specialty: Everything at Bindoya is made with quality in mind, from meats sourced through trusted partners in Alberta and BC, to imported South African spices and goods. What sets them apart? The meat is naturally cured with no preservatives or nitrates, just premium cuts and traditional South African flavours and methods.

Their story: Originally from South Africa, Esme and her family missed the flavours of home, especially the beloved biltong and boerewors. So they started making their own and quickly realized there was nothing like it in the region. Bindoya officially became the first South African food shop in the Kootenays, and the local community has embraced it with open arms (and open mouths). From day one, their goal has been to stay authentic, stay hands-on, and keep introducing Creston to the bold, rich flavours they love. With a new expansion on the horizon, Bindoya is just getting started.
