Name: Creston Valley Farmer’s Market
Manager: Rylee Collins
Short bio: The Creston Valley Farmers’ Market is more than just a place to shop, it’s a lively community gathering that celebrates local food and creativity. With fresh produce, handmade goods, and familiar faces all around, the market brings the best of the valley together every week, rain or shine.
About the Market
What they offer: Every Saturday from April to October (9am to 1pm), the Creston Valley Farmers’ Market fills the downtown with the sights, smells, and sounds of the season. Shoppers can find everything from just-picked fruits and vegetables to handmade soaps, artisan pottery, sourdough bread, locally raised meats, and much more. Every product is made, baked, or grown by someone nearby. No resellers, no imports. It’s all local, all the time.
Unique approach or specialty: What makes this market stand out is its role as an incubator for small, local businesses and its commitment to keeping things truly local. With a “Creston-first” philosophy, the market provides an accessible, low-barrier space for both longtime vendors and new entrepreneurs to thrive. Some vendors have been there for over a decade, while others are just starting out. Together, they create a vibrant, ever-changing experience that reflects the valley’s deep roots and fresh ideas. Unlike many towns, Creston is fortunate to have a dedicated outdoor space for its market: ʔak̓uǂni park, a welcoming, indigenous inspired space right in the heart of town. During the winter months the market moves indoors to the Creston & District Community Complex, a true testament to how strong and steady the community’s support truly is.
Their story: Born and raised in Creston, Rylee stepped into the role of Market Manager under the Creston Valley Food Action Coalition after studying at the University of Victoria. When the former manager was ready to move on, the timing just felt right. Rylee returned home, drawn by the community vibe, the family-focused energy, and the chance to support something meaningful.
The market she now leads has grown to include at times 50 vendors a week and continues to expand. While weather and rising costs pose challenges, the market’s popularity, and the loyalty of early-morning treasure hunters, shows just how essential it’s become. Rylee dreams of a permanent, year-round home for the market, but for now, she’s proud of how far it’s come: from a dirt parking lot with no amenities to a buzzing hub of local innovation.
