About the Business

What they offer: Yellowbird offers art classes that guide students from the basics of drawing and painting through to developing their own unique, creative style. Classes are built to be approachable for absolute beginners while still providing depth for those ready to grow further. Beyond technique, students gain tools for self-expression, new perspectives, and the chance to connect with others through the shared language of art.

Unique approach or specialty: Yellowbird stands apart as a space filled with light, encouragement, and creative energy. Jaye’s teaching approach, shaped by over 12 years of experience, focuses on building confidence step by step, making art less intimidating and more joyful. Every class emphasizes not only skill-building, but also mindfulness, inspiration, and the power of seeing the world in new ways.

Their story: The name Yellowbird is rooted in Jaye’s own story. Nicknamed “Bird” as a child, she paired it with her favorite colour, yellow, a symbol of hope, optimism, and new beginnings. It reflects the bright, uplifting spirit she wanted for her studio, while also nodding to Creston’s many bird-inspired place names and her deep connection to the community. After teaching art locally and beyond for more than a decade, Jaye envisioned a space where people could grow as artists without fear or pressure. Yellowbird is the result: a creative home where everyone is welcome, whether they’re discovering art for the first time or reigniting a long-lost passion.
